Farewell to Summer Part II

Happy September!!! It’s a little bit ironic to have found myself writing my part deux of “Farewell to Summer” on the first day of September but what better timing to finally let go of all that has happened this summer and finally embrace the future to come!

Like I promised before, here are some of my favourite photos from my garden party/barebeque I hosted less than two weeks ago 🙂

Two of the easiest DIYs I prepared for the party that made all the difference in the ambiance! It became one of the main focal points in my back yard (even though it was so simple) and I couldn’t be happier how it turned out. I printed the banner letters from another blogger here and punch holes on the edges. I took some twine and sewed it through the holes, thus, creating this fun little banner! For the tissue pom-pom balls, all it took was inexpensive tissue paper from the dollar store and a few Youtube tutorials (be careful, they get addicting to make!) & for the led lanterns, I found this cute babies at the dollar store. Super easy to make and all of them created such a pretty touch.

Another main focus of my party was the candy bar. I (still) loveeeee this table so much!

I had all my favourite candies (Skittles, Double Bubble gum, Cherry Blasters, Fuzzy Peaches, Coca-Cola Bottle Gummies and Gummy Worms) in mason and plastic jars – along with other party essentials like drink parasols (duhhhh), glowsticks for my guests to wear at night, bug repellent, my polaroid & film, & some tea light candles.

I created a hashtag #kaysbbq to make it easier for my friends and I to follow the event on social media 🙂

This was definitely the highlight of my garden party. The “Selfie Wall” was essentially twine hung across the bottom of my patio with my guests names hung by clothes pins. During the party, they were instructed to find their name and take a polaroid of themselves to replace it! I found this idea on Pinterest and HAD to do it! I wish I could upload how that all looked like but of course, in respect to my friends, I must keep that private. But let me tell you, there were some great polaroids that came out of it HAHA

This is a day/night shot of the colorful string paper lanterns that were hung in the garden. The color theme of #kaysbbq was floral & bright summer colors – teal, hot pink, yellow, orange & white.

Being so caught up with making sure everyone was okay, I didn’t get the chance to take a picture of the food table set up and all the cute little details I had like my teal ice bucket, sunset ombre’d lantern centre piece, the table clothes and of course, all the yummy food! (REGRETS!!!!) But there was barbeque, burgers, smokies, fruit kebabs, chips & dip, pizza, my dad’s special fruit punch, red velvet cake with brownie bits and my friends kindly brought veggie platters, more meat and more chips to contribute 🙂

Loureal and her mom kindly made some beautiful chocolate cupcakes with detailed teal icing which matched the theme to a tee. I was so honoured to have had these made just for my party! They were also freaking delicious!!!

Just because BBQs scream out “finger foods”, I thought I would make some super cute tags for my plastic cutlery to add a little oomph and color.

I found these cute little tags from another blogger of “Eat Drink Chic” 🙂 Soooo cute!

Me with my candy bar trying to set up the music HAHA. My #ootd consisted of a creme floral lace top from H&M & a black and white daisy skirt also from H&M. (**Also, I had paper straws on this table that wasn’t in the picture above earlier because it was moved beside to the punch dispenser.)

I find such a deep level of happiness when I see the people I love having a good time and being in the moment with each other and I find it very humbling to know that my party was able to do that. I enjoy planning things and taking the time to find the little details that makes all the difference even if it is so simple 🙂 It’s actually been quite awhile since I’ve planned anything to this extent and it has made me nothing but excited for the next opportunity I get to host.

So again, thank you to all my beautiful friends who came out to enjoy the evening, Mike and my mama who selflessly dedicated their time and effort to help out and to the summer that got me good. I hope you enjoyed these photos and had a great summer!

I wish you all the best this upcoming season – time to start new!

Farewell to Summer

Hello there! After a five month hiatus with blogging, I am back and inspired as ever. The past few months of Spring/Summer have been filled with nothing but lots of sun, late night chilling with friends, good food and overall, a positive vibe. Of course the feels of Lana Del Ray’s “Summertime Sadness” would be fitting for this time but hey, Fall is just around the corner and it so happens to be my next favourite season!

Last night I hosted my own Farewell to Summer party. It was a long time coming planning and getting ready for this party but it came out exactly as I envisioned it (maybe even better – with the help of amazing mom & boyfriend, Mike).

Being addicted to Pinterest, last month I started coming across boards dedicated to summer soirees and festive BBQs which only fuelled my summertime excitement, ambition and passion for planning. I kept thinking to myself when would be a good opportunity, if I was gonna even get a chance to have one or if it would even been anything close to successful. It was just an idea – something at the back of my mind, until I was chilling with one of my girl friends, Loureal, one day in July. We went to a Canadian Superstore and came across all their summer decorations and I was IN LOVE. IN-FREAKING-LOVE. I couldn’t resist and my whole being was giddy like a kid in a candy shop. I knew if I was going to buy some of these cute decors, I HAD to have a party and put it to use. And so, the hardcore planning process began.

Almost everyday since last month, I kept re-pinning other people’s pins, looking at cute DIYs, reading other bloggers tips, searching endless descriptions of “summer bbq ideas”, “outdoor party lightings”, “diy summer decor”, “outdoor party food” etc. and created my own board filled with the ideas of how I would want my own summer party to be like if I was to have one. I made several hefty bag trips to the dollar store, stayed up late making all the DIYs, had lots of stressed out rants with Mike about ALL the things (food/theme colors/decorations/set-ups… everything HAHA), – it was a mixture of what I love to do, fun, creativity and the peak of white hairs popping out to show.

This weekend it was showtime – the planning process was coming to an end and it was time to put together all my ideas that were jumbled in my head and execute them into my backyard. With the help of my selfless mother and ah-mazing boyfriend, they helped me put things into place by adding their ideas, critiques and vision as well. (I may have not taken that too lightly since I feel like I’m a control freak when it comes to things I plan and can honestly say, I was a “party-zilla” the day prior to the gathering… but they seem to still love me which I’m thankful for LOL)

Needless to say, after the many hours and days of planning, executing and releasing my control freak beast – it came out perfect. Beyond my expectations, and I, now, feel satisfied with myself and at peace that I was able to do it. It was a night filled with old friends, new friends, LOTS OF FOOD, laughter, nostalgia, vibin’ music, a positive ambiance & pure happiness. It was the perfect way to end summer for me with all my favourite people and it has made my heart melt into a humble puddle of mushy goop that I got to see them enjoy themselves and interact with each other.

So please, raise your glasses and cheers – to a great summer, my beautiful friends & all the happiness it has brought. I am looking forward to next summer and all the adventures it will bring in Future’s time and hopefully will be able to share it here as well 🙂

Until next time –

Weekly Adventure: Girls Day, Closing Shifts, Impulse Shopping & Movie Dates

Hello, there!

As the weekend is almost to it’s end, it feels only right for me to be snuggling in a comfy blanket, eating some Hershey Kisses & Hugs, sipping some David’s Tea (currently enjoying “Read My Lips”… IT’S SO GOOD) and listening to the amazing Tori Kelly and Sam Smith, all while reflecting what’s been going on in my life recently. This past week hasn’t been anything out of the norm but it’s been fairly busy with catch up dinners, closing work shifts, and lots (and by lots, I mean LOTS) of impulse shopping. I’d thought it be nice to share with you what I’ve been up to this week – so bear with me! 🙂

Last SUNDAY after work, I met up with my friends Aly and Laureen to have a girls night! The last time we were all together was in January so it was nice to have some time to sit down and talk about everything. We went to a popular All-You-Can-Eat sushi restaurant for dinner in downtown Vancouver called Shabusen and ate in a boat which excited me way more than I needed to be. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the food… maybe that’s a good thing cause it’ll probably make my sushi craving even worse. Anyways, the struggle was real towards the end and I offered the idea of playing chubby bunny with the food so we wouldn’t get charged but that resulted in me almost puking. Not a good idea HAHA

After dinner, we decided to walk off our food babies and do a little shopping around Robson Street. We made quick pit stops to Aldo, Forever 21 and then Lush – my favourite place to get all natural face masks! For those of you who aren’t familiar with Lush, they sell a bunch of cute and colourful handmade cosmetics like face masks, bath bombs, soap, shower gels, hair masks etc. and all made cruelty free!

Laureen had to go home shortly so after we said our goodbyes, Aly and I decided we would go into Victoria Secret before heading home. After looking around the store for a bit and my embarrassing washroom incident that only Aly knows – we ended up in the body lotion/mist section. And OF COURSE, when we didn’t want to spend anymore money, they would have a promo selling all body mists for only $5… ONLY $5. On top of that, it was the last day of the promo so we obviously couldn’t say no! I ended up getting Pure Seduction Bloom and Love Spell Bloom, both limited edition body mists and they smell PERFECT for Spring!

MONDAY to WEDNESDAY wasn’t all that eventful other than I worked all closing shifts, which I really don’t mind since I think I’m quite good at closing 😛

On THURSDAY afternoon, I met up with Aly again and picked up a few things before going to our choir rehearsal (I think you can see a reoccurring theme when we’re together HAHA) Last year I made a huge decision to dye my hair ombre – I’ve never done anything like it before so it was a pretty big deal. Since then, I’ve been trying to find good products to make my hair feel less dry and more smooth and recently, Aly recommended I try the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque (I got it on sale for $27 at a local salon). I tried it over this weekend and IT IS AMAZING. My hair feels so much softer and it’s shiny and smells like DIVINE GOODNESS. I also picked up a new bottle of heat protectant at London Drugs because I ran out! I am currently trying out the TRESemme Keratin Smooth! I recommend both products to you all!

huuuuur

FRIDAY afternoon, I went with my sister to Futureshop and Coquitlam Centre Mall because she was looking for a new laptop! It was a pretty big deal for her because she is the type of person who hates to spend any money. Thank goodness my cousin was working that day at Futureshop and had helped us out! My sister eventually chose a laptop and paid for it herself after nervously laughing for about 20 minutes (I’m surprised my sister didn’t pass out and have a heart attack LOL). After she purchased her laptop, we went around the mall to H&M, Sephora, the Apple Store and Target. Okay, let me get this straight. Target is seriously one of my favourite places to go to for cute, cool and affordable “knick knacks”. A few months ago, my mom bought herself and my dad these plastic Mason Jars for her green juice smoothies and I just knew I had to buy one. They finally had some more in stock, retailing around $9.99, so I grabbed the cutest one I could find! I also found this awesome quirky chalkboard (retailed for about $24.95) that I couldn’t pass up. As I am planning to redecorate my room this summer, I know it’ll be a perfect addition to my room decor!!!

Later Friday night, my boyfriend Michael and I, decided we would go on a movie date. We thought we would splurge a little more and instead of watching a movie in the regular theatre, we would try the 19+ VIP Lounge at Cineplex Coquitlam. We were excited and looking forward to watch Divergent but it was already sold out by the time we got there so we settled and watched Bad Words. The movie was EH but the overall VIP experience was pretty cool with in-house service and dining (appetizers, burgers, salads, desserts etc.), available alcohol beverages, reclining leather seats, lots of leg space and space between seats and even extra elbow room!

SATURDAY – Again, did nothing but work a closing shift!

TODAY, I woke up extra early to grab some breakfast before my opening shift at work. I bought a croissant with Forest Ham, eggs, and cheddar cheese, alongside with some Vitamin Water from Cultured Coffee. It was delish. I was scheduled to work a shorter shift today which was refreshing! I got to work with my favourite coworkers and got time to work on my specialist area which made everything go by super fast. One of my friends, Loureal (aka my chummy) came into work for her shift and we were wearing the same thing which happens often! This time, we made sure that we would document it and take a picture to remember our tWINNING outfit 🙂 After work, I rushed on home, ate some of my Mom’s beef stir fry and took a glorious nap!

yhelly and i

As of now, I am just enjoying myself, relaxing and getting myself ready for another busy week ahead. It’s crazy how time is flying by – in a couple of days, it’s already April! Can you believe it?! Anyways, I hope you have a great week and get some productive things done! Wishing you all the best.

Until next time,

☀ BOLD LIPS: MAC Lipstick Edition ☀

My love and obsession with lipsticks has tremendously grown over the past year – in fact, there’s only a few occasions I can think of when I’m not sporting some kind of lippy (anyone who knows me well could agree to that)! It is my favourite kind of makeup product and personally for me, putting on some colourful lipstick can really pull a whole outfit together. Bold statement lips are one of my favourite things all year round but I’m even more excited to rock them for Spring because of the many bright hues of pink, red, oranges, and purples out there!

Seriously. I. Am. OBSESSED.

Throughout the year, I have hoarded different lipstick brands which has led me to narrow them down into their respective collections so I may shine a glorious spotlight on all the products. So this post is dedicated to MAC. I’ve only recently jumped onto the MAC bandwagon but boy, am I hooked. Even though I don’t have a huge MAC lipstick collection like other makeup enthusiasts out there, I’m proud of the ones I own and I make sure to use ALL of them religiously. They have a creamy texture, are highly pigmented, long lasting and smell like vanilla goodness & a little goes a long way with these babies. It’s hard not to love them! The colours I will for sure be pulling out and using more for Spring are Candy Yum Yum, Ruby Woo, Please Me, Coral Bliss and Heroine (which I have yet to get!)

Without further ado, below are my well loved (as you can see the state of them) go-to lipsticks & my favourite MAC Pro Palette that I got from my friends Alyssa and Alison last Christmas. I hope you guys enjoy! Happy Thursday, loves! 🙂
